Polyarylene sulphide-based mixts. (I) are claimed, contg. (A) 20-80 wt% polyarylene sulphide, (B) 1-70 wt% graphite powder and/or fibres, (C) 5-50 wt% mineral fibres, pref. glass fibres and opt. (D) 5-50 wt% other mineral fillers or other fillers. Pref. (A) is polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) with melt viscosity 5-1000 Pa.s. (measured in a high-pressure capillary viscometer at 320 deg C and shear rate 1000/sec.); fillers in (I) are mica, TiO2, BaSO4, chalk, quartz, talcum, kaolin, MoS2 or iriodins and/or metal powder, fibres or flakes and/or carbon fibres and/or aramid fibres. When PPS has melt viscosity 30-200 Pa.s. (100-200 (esp. pref. 140-160) Pa.s. for extruded sections), e.g. Ryton or Tedur (RTM); graphite has particle size 1-0.5 mm and (C) is silanised glass fibre with dia. 5-12 microns. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful for the prodn. of moulded prods. (claimed). Incorporation of graphite and mineral fibres into PPS gives high temp.-resistant mouldings with very high flexural modulus and good electrical conductivity. Applications are, e.g. in the prodn. of slide valves, interlayer rings, shells, carbon brushes, etc.
