A multiple-way selection lever has a selection axle (22) which can be pivoted away from its basic position in several directions against a restoring force to operate control elements. A guide plate (30) mounted on the selection axle is enclosed with play by a cage (18). The outer periphery of the plate and inner periphery of the cage are polygonal with a number of edges corresp. to the number of directions of displacement. Each edge is perpendicular to its associated direction. USE/ADVANTAGE - Selection axle is guided accurately from start of its pivoting motion in selection direction.
