Temp. monitor esp. for combustion engine cooling system - switches off engine depending on temp. w.r.t. threshold comparison and temp. gradient against time

A temp. monitor (8) continuously measures (7) the temp. of internal combustion engine (1) cooling fluid and exhaust gases and switches off the engine when a defined temp. is reached which is sufficiently below the maximum safe operating temp. The arrangement also monitors the temp. gradient against time and takes account of both instantaneous temp. and temp. gradient when switching off the engine. Temp. gradient derivation and engine switching control are performed by a microprocessor. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for use in underground mining. Eliminates erroneous switch-off without endangering maintenance of safe maximum temp.
