Device for removing phosphate(s) from waste water or sewage - by circulating algae parallel to the sewage flow but sepd. from it by water-permeable partition through which the algae cannot pass
The process makes use of algae which after multiplication are skimmed off the liquid surface, and which are prevented from flowing away with the sewage by a separating wall which is impermeable to them. The sewage inlet and outlet are on the same side of the partition, and the water pressure on the sewage side of the partition is equal to or greater than that on the algae side. The region containing the partition is kept in darkness, and the algae suspension is circulated parallel to the sewage flow. Illumination is provided at a separated point on the algae circuit. Carbon dioxide is added to the algae suspension, which may be heated. The skimmed off excess algae are dried and burnt. USE/ADVANTAGE - This invention is used for removing phosphates from waste water by means of suitable algae. The proposed system is more economic and efficient than existing systems in which the sewage inlet and outlet are on different sides of the algae-retaining partition.
