The housing of the mirror has a first section (2) extending along the vehicle, and a second section (3) pivotable about a vertical axis (4) between the deployed position and a retracted position close to the first section (2). The pivoting is effected by an electric motor (5) driving a pinion (9) in mesh with the teeth (11) of a segment (10) coupled to the axis (4), with two springs (13). USE/ADVANTAGE - Mirror is easily movable from deployed to retracted position in, e.g. automatic washing plants or underground garages, as well as in the vent of an accident.
