The properties of materials, and of plastics in partic., at elevated temps. (higher than 100 deg.C) and under defined humidity conditions, are determined by the following stages: test appts. with external control, and an autoclave in partic., is heated up, the test piece is placed in the appts. and a thermocouple is attached to the test piece, a liq. is admitted to the appts., the appts. is raised to the desired temp. at the specified humidity, and the test (partic. compression strength) is carried out. The specimen is then removed from the appts. and is weighed, it is next placed in a conditioning chamber, the required temp. and relative humidity are reached, the test piece is removed and weighed, and the two weights are compared to obtain the moisture content of the test piece. ADVANTAGE - The method enables the properties of the material to be determined at the high temp. and specific relative humidity without allowing it to dry out and by using an actual check measurement.
