At least two monitoring wires (2,3,4,5) extend along the pipe line (5) incorporated in either or both layers (13, 14) of the thermal insulation (7), only one of which is porous for the transported gas or liquid. The monitoring wires are coupled at one end to a measuring device for detection of a line breakage or a line short-circuit and the complex electrical resistance between the wires. Pref., one of the measuring wires is provided by the pipeline itself, the remaining wires (2,3,4) lying at differing radial distances from the pipeline.
