An optical magnetic field sensor for measuring a magnetic field using the Faraday effect has a source (1) of polarised light (2) which passes through a magnetic field sensitive measurement path (6) and an analyser (20) which determines the rotation of the polarisation plane of the light caused by the magnetic field. The analyser can perform a complete polarisation analysis of the transmitted light (10). USE/ADVANTAGE - Measuring current or magnetic field. Can practically eliminate measurement errors caused by elliptical polarisation of measurement beam.
