An arrangement continuously measuring the direction of motion of a point on a road vehicle in the plane of the road surface relative to a coordinate system fixed w.r.t. the vehicle or wheel hub, contains an opto-electrical transducer attached to the vehcile or wheel hub. The transducer translates the instantaneous image of a visible part of the surface into a light dark raster pattern which is digitised and stored for multiple images. A computer derives the direction of motion from hte stored images. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simpler, more reliable vehicle float and skew angles measurement.
