High performance steel-core wire rope - includes polymer filling extra spaces provided by recesses in cross=section of inner braids formed e.g. by using one less wire
A wide rope with steel core contains plastic material and braiding in its construction and its outer braiding is also pref. compressed but has recesses in its cross-section. There are non-twist types of cable in two forms. They have a core braid and successive outer layers of braiding in which the second layer has thicker and thinner braids (Warrington Machart construction). The use of thinner wire in the braids produces recesses in the cross-sections. A single wire may be omitted from the relevant features, to leave similar recesses in the cross-section. In each case the recesses concerned are filled with the polymer used. This produces good seals for the lubricant used in the interior and increases the performance level of the cable. ADVANTAGE - The design has plastic material embedded in it even though its braiding is compressed in the core.
