The steel reinforcing bars of a reinforced concrete structure are positioned with respect to the shuttering by concrete beams which are extruded from an extrusion press. As the concrete (12) is extruded it is passed between two rollers (15, 16) which form depressions (13) separated by ridges (14) on its upper and lower surfaces. After the concrete has hardened it is placed against one of the shuttering panels of the structure formwork. The depressions (13) form passageways which allow the concrete of the structure to flow between the beam and the shuttering so that the beams are fully embedded in the finished concrete structure.
