Consolidation of granular and pulverulent ashes, esp. boiler ashes and salts from flue gas scrubbing in special waste incineration plants, is carried out using a hardenable binder of waterglass with aluminium phosphate hardener. Pref. the hardener is uniformly dispersed in the dry waste, a 25-50 (pref. 30-45)% waterglass soln. is mixed in and then the mixt. is hardened, pref. in moulds. The waste is pref. mixed with at least 10% hardener (based on waste-hardener mixt.), pref. 20-30 (esp. 30)% hardener in the case of boiler ash and pref. more than 20 (esp. 30)% hardener in the case of salts. After addn. of at least 30% waterglass (calculated as solids and based on 100% waste-hardener mixt.), pref. 25-80 (esp. 30-35)% sodium waterglass in the case of boiler ash and pref. 38-45% waterglass in the case of salts, the mixt. is hardened. ADVANTAGE - The product has much improved elutriation resistance and does not require special storage dumps.
