The device for spreading cloth from a roll over a table (14) has a frame (11) equipped with rollers. This enables it to move forwards and backwards along rails (15) on each side of the table (14). The cloth is unwound from a roll mounted on the frame by an endless belt (16) which has its outer end supported either on an arm (19) or on a vertically sliding support (31). The vertical movement of this support maintains the cloth at the required tension as the frame (11) moves over the table. USE - Inspection and display of textiles.
