Polyamino dicarboxylic acid -co-anhydroamino-dicarboxylic acid derivs. of formula (I) are new. In (I), n is 1 or 2, x is 1-500, y is 1-500, R is OR1 or NHR2, R2 is H, (CH2)mOR1, (CH2)mOCOR1 or (CH2)mOCOOR1, m is 2-6, R1 is H, aryl, aralkyl, arylalkenyl, alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl, biologically inactive steroid alcohol gp., or an amino acid gp., the aryl gps. are opt. substd. with 1-4C alkyl, 2-4C alkenyl, 1-4C alkylcarbonyl, 1-4C alkoxy carbonyl 1-4C alkoxy or OH, the R1 alkyl gps. contain 1-22C and the R1 alkenyl gps. contain 2-22C and both are opt. interrupted by carbonyloxy or oxycarbonyl gps., the repeating units in square brackets may be distributed statistically or in blocks through the polymer with each repeating unit signified with x or with y identical or different. The amino acids are alpha and/or beta bonded. -
