Tube-extruding equipment has a gauging device and a means of measuring the wall thickness of the tubing produced which has at test head moving round the circumference of the tubing. There are a number and pref. four such test heads arranged at the gauging device to oscillate over the fraction of a circle according to the number of test heads present. The figure shows the outer end of the gauging device, where a mounting is located consisting of a driving toothed wheel (6) carrying arms (10). Each arm (10) is adjustable in position by its cylinder unit (9) and its (10) end holds a carriage (12') to hold a measuring head. Each such head has an ultrasonic system. Each carriage (12') has four rollers (12) running on the o.d. of the gauging device. Each carriage (12) can tilt about the axes (A,B and C). The toothed wheel (6) is driven and its system can be in a tank of cooling spray. ADVANTAGE - The system is free from the problems of earlier types (complicated signal transmissions, production of marks on the tubing etc.). At the same time the system is simple.
