Reducing acid loses in retardation plants for separating free acids and metal salts is claimed. The novelty is that an acid/water/air boundary layer is produced in the resin column. Before forming a new boundary layer, an existing layer is destroyed, this happens before each new cycle. At the end of a cycle or before re-introducing acid the resin column is dehydrated with compressed air, which is introduced into the upper section of the column. The amt. of water used is measured in such a way that the acid adsorbed by the resin is expelled from the resin. ADVANTAGE - Efficiency of the retardation plant is improved, eg. raising the percentage of recovered acids for reducing costs and environmental protection.
