Machine for straightening anode rods suspended from an overhead track has the novelty of a rotatable unit (14) positioned with its drive (15) below the straightening jaws (6,7) The unit can rotate the anode rods through 90 deg. A rotating table (18) vertically adjustable by a lift cylinder has forked projections (26) whose openings can be aligned with the spade ends (4) on the lower ends of the anode rods. The jaws (6,7) are moved by a drive (8) comprising a double-acting hydraulic thrust-piston system which is coupled to the jaws by a toggle joint arrangement. -
