When separating out waste the various types of household refuse are sorted in house into different containers (3, 3a) which combine to form one waste bin. The different types of waste are then stored temporarily in different compartments (15) in the dustbins for subsequent transfer into a common dustcart which has several compartments for onward conveyance to a rubbish tip or recycling plant. The waste bin can have several drawer-like containers (3) mounted one above the other. The containers can engage round a common central rod (4) so that they can be drawn out on opposite sides. ADVANTAGE - Easier recycling.
