The sliding roof-mounted hoist uses manual force to initiate motor-assisted raising or lowering of equipment (9) on a cable (10). The hoist has a double-armed level (4), the longer arm (5) of which supports a counterweight (7) and the motor (13). The shorter arm supports the cable drum (8). The motor, which has self-locking gearing (11,12), is operated by a sensor element (14), that detects deflection of the level from its balance position. ADVANTAGE - Fine control is possible when raising and lowering equipment.
