In normal traffic control systems, the greater part of the cost is taken up with laying underground power supplies and control cables. This systems uses solar panels to provide the power during the day, at night an internal energy store is used. The coordination of a complete road junction can be done simply - on a timed basis or with more complication - by using short wave radio signals to coordinate the lights.
