The invention relates to human splenopentine derivatives of general formula Arg - X - Ala - R1, in which the amino acid radicals can have an L or D configuration and Arg is a substituted or unsubstituted arginine radical; X is a substituted or unsubstituted sar, pro, gly, ala, leu, thr, ser, lys, val, phe or cys radical; and R1 is a radical of general formula -X-Z-OR3 or-X-Z-N(R3R4), where R3 and R4 are the same or different and H is an alkyl group with 1 - 18 carbon atoms, an alkylene group with 2 - 7 carbon atoms, an alkinyl group with 2 - 7 carbon atoms, an alkaryl group with 7 - 20 carbon atoms, an aralkyl group with 7 - 20 carbon atoms or polyhydroxyalkyl; and Z is a tyr, phe, decarboxy-tyr or decarboxy-phe-radical possibly substituted at least by OH, NO2, halogen and/or OCH3, or a trp radical. Compounds of the above formula have an immune-modulating effect and exert a direct influence on the proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow basic cells.
