Prodn. of double glazing for cars - by injection moulding two sealing surrounds on to one pane, inner seal contg. dehydrating agent and pressing second pane on to it

A thermally insulating glass window, particularly one for cars, is produced with at least two separate glass sheets with a gap formed by a plastic section. One pane has a plastic surround in two adjacent parts, one of which has a high content of dehydrating agent; the surround is injection moulded round one pane, and in a single operation; the insulating property is obtd. by bonding the other pane to the first and its moulded surround. The single glass sheet (1) is surrounded by two materials (2,5), one (5) contg. the dehydrating agent. This material (5) can be distributed round the complete circumference or merely at partic. places such as near the bottom. To produce the insulating window the pane (4) is bonded directly on to the injection moulded surround (2). The bonding polymer shot (2) can be given a partic. profile if desired. The two sealing materials can also be moulded so as to fit together by their profiles. ADVANTAGE - The method of prodn. is inexpensive and rational.
