A four wheel brake pressure regulating device (3,3A,4,4A) working in conjuction with a distance measuring system (60f,60v) enables the automatic steering of a vehicle w.rt. a defined track laid on or alongside the road.$ Distance assessment employs established methods using ultrasonic, HF or reflected light beams (60f,60v) and terrain irregularities are sensed by wheel rotation measurements. System parameters are comprehensively supervised by a central control unit (10) in comparison with stored data and a steering wheel sensor (61) and master switch (62) ensure overriding driver control.$ USE/ADVANTAGE - Permits higher traffic densities on key routes with increased safety. Driver has overriding control at all times and system minimises disconcerting steering wheel responses unsettling to some drivers.
