A circulating stream of liq is delivered via an adjustable nozzle into an open space leading to the mixing vessel, in such a manner that the stream of fluid exactly fills the cross-section of the entrance from the open space into the vessel. The liq leaves the nozzle at a velocity of 30 to 40 m/s and flows at atmospheric pressure from the open space into the mixing vessel. The nozzle and the opening leading to the mixing vessel may be automatically varied in cross-section by a process control system. The liq is circulated from the contact vessel (1) via a pipe (9) and a pump (3) and enters the space (23) which is open to the atmos via a nozzle (33). There it picks up the solid particles being fed under gravity, and spreads into a flow pattern (25) which fully occupies the entrance to the mixing vessel (17). Devices (33,35) are provided for adjusting the nozzle and the entrance opening (17). USE/ADVANTAGE - For introducing solids and/or fluids into a solid/liq contact or mixing vessel, in which the liq is circulated in a closed circuit. Such systems are found in drying and varnishing processes, and also in chemical reactors and mass- and heat-transfer systems. Larger solid particles than normal of regular and irregular shape can be handled in a continuous process, and pharmaceutical prods of up to 30 mm in size can be accommodated.
