The method of guiding shells to enable their hit reliability to be increased involves using a guidance rule which steers the shell on a collision course with the target. The desired course of the shell is derived by a guidance computer at each correction time point from the spatial angular deviation of the actual value of the shell/ target line from its desired value. The guidance measurement and control phases are decoupled in time to suppress shell oscillations arising from control action during the subsequent measurement phase. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for guiding shells towards direct impact with manoeuvering flying targets to achieve significantly higher strike accuracy.
