Signals from an inlet pressure transducer (22), throttle opening sensor (8) and revolution counter (7) to the electronic control unit (2) are processed to produce a command (11) for the pref. electromagnetic injection valve (10) supplying fuel from a tank (16) via a pump (13) and parallel pressure control valve (14). The quantity of fuel is reduced to a value dependent on torque up to a max. which is modified in accordance with actual load and speed. ADVANTAGE - Control can operate equally well with stoichiometric fuel/air ratios and with relatively large excess of O2 in exhaust gas.
