The method involves acting upon an injector with at least two different control durations giving two injection quantity values. A gradient value (1/f) is calculated from the two injection quantity values, and it is considered in the fuel quantity adjustment. The values of the control durations are selected from an interval of 200 microseconds to 2500 microseconds. An independent claim is also included for a device used to carry out the method.
