The engine (2) controlled by an economy or full-load program and speed selector (1) drives a power-branching system (6) incorporating a two-stage hydrostatic drive (15,16) and a mechanical drive (17) with two clutches (25,26). Rotational speed sensors (7,9,45) send signals to an electronic controller (3) which disengages the clutches (25,26), applies a brake (43) to the rear axle (27), and displays a warning (29) if the ratio of input and output shaft speeds exceeds the permissible max. USE/ADVANTAGE - On combustion-engined vehicle. Driver is alerted automatically to fault condition, clutches are protected and safety is guaranteed.
