An arrangement for testing the cutting and wear properties of cutting tools loaded with constant but adjustable application forces enables, for each orientation, the cut material (2) to be wholly separated or cut to a defined depth using freely programmable relative motion between the material and the tool (1) which is heated to a controlled temp. The actual number of cutting strokes is counted and evaluated by a computer (26) which determines the total cutting distance or test cutting parameters and displays (27) selected data. USE/ADVANTAGE - For rapid, convenient testing of cutting tools or cut material under representative conditions.
