Production of duplicate dental technicians model - by first making negative model from original model

A duplicate, of a dental technician's model of a patient's jaw and teeth, is made in the following way. The original model (36) is placed on a base (42) and the lower end of a sleeve (14) is fitted over the base. The sleeve (14) has an internal circumferential ridge which engages a groove (40) in the base (42) to form a seal. The upper end of the sleeve (14) is supported by a flange (16) with a central hole for a piston (32). The piston has a central hole (28) to enable a silicon mass to be poured into the sleeve (14) to cover the model. The piston (32) is pressed downwards as far as possible to limit the amt. of silicon mass necessary to form a negative model. This negative modelis then used to form a duplicate model.
