A microscope (11) with a long-range viewing capability is attached through parallel and rotational links (7,12,13,15) to the end of a body-scanner (1). Positional data from the focus mechanism and links (7,12,13,14,15) is passed to a microprocessor (18) where the position of the viewing field (P1) is calculated in terms of rectangular coordinates (X,Y,Z) with respect to an initial reference position (Po). The three coordinates are displayed in the microscope viewing field and stored in the computer for further use. In an alternative form the device is mounted on a mobile stand suitable for more general use in medical examination. ADVANTAGE - Enables microscopic examination at distance.
