摘要

The prepn. of highly pure 1,4,5,8-tetra-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-9,10-anthracene dione (I) comprises oxidising crude (I) obtd. by conventional syntheses to 1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxy -9,10-anthracene dione (II) which is then converted to 1,4,5-triacetoxy- 8-hydroxy-9,10 -anthracene dione (III). (III) is purified by recrystallisation from DMF and then converted back to (I). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is an inter in the prepn. of anthraquinone dyestuffs. Highly pure (I) can be used as a chelate former, complex former, and mashing agent and esp. as a pharmaceutical for cancer therapy. The process converts crude (I) to (I) of a purity sufficient to be used in pharmaceuticals, in good space-time yields, using no solvents with a tendency to explode, avoids the use of hot organic solvents, does not need to be carried out in the absence of air to inhibit oxidn..
