The invention relates to the extraction of metals such as plutonium, uranium and strontium, which are present in solutions from the reprocessing of irradiated nuclear fuels and aqueous effluents contaminated with plutonium or strontium. To carry out this extraction, the cis-syn-cis isomer of the crown ether DCH18C6 is employed, either in solution in an organic diluent such as benzonitrile or dichloroethane, or in a solid phase such as silica.
