A plasmidless mutant strain of Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 designataed PV361 is provided which has lost its ability to produce extracellular megacin but otherwise has substantially all of the characteristics of the parent stock.PPB. megaterium PV361 has been deposited at the NRRL on July 17, 1987 and been given NRRL accession No. B-18241.
