METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CUTTING ELONGATED NOTCH IN PATTERN PIECE CUT OUT OF SHEET MATERIAL

PURPOSE: To provide a cutting method and device to simultaneously form slit notches in a cut pattern piece while cutting the pattern piece from a sheet material preventing formation of uncut parts close to the notches. CONSTITUTION: A slit notch is formed when a cutting tool 32 reaches a notch point on a circumferential edge line of a pattern piece 58. After forming the notch, the cutting tool is released from cutting engagement with a work material to return to the notch point, and circumferential edge line cutting work is continued. The tool 32 is engaged with a work material for cutting at a position on the circumferential edge line having an interval on the back of the foremost position along the circumferential edge line of the cutting tool 32 before formation of the notch, so formation of an uncut part by return of the material pushed forward by the cutting tool 32 at the time of cutting work is prevented, thereby separation of the pattern piece 58 from unnecessary material parts is facilitated.
