MANUFACTURE OF PREFORM FOR OPTICAL FIBER WITH REGULAR PROPERTIES

PURPOSE: To obtain the preform for optical fiber which has small unevenness of a tube at starting time or deposition of an internal room or small deformation in different stages of the process. ;CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical piece of glass 4 is subjected to heating bath on glassmaker's lathes 10, 11, and 12. This is manufacture of a preform for optical fiber with regular characteristics and when this piece of glass 4 is formed into the solid preform after the manufacture, arbitrary opto-geometrical defects of said piece of glass 4 are detected and measured, and then corrected by machining the external surface thereof by a heating mechanism 22 during a correction bath performed on the same glassmaker's lathes 10, 11, and 12.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
