METHOD FOR UNITING OPTICAL FIBER CABLE AND CONNECTOR FOR UNITING

PURPOSE:To facilitate the connection of plural fiber bundles and to improve an optical information transmission ability by uniting the fiber bundles into a connector having a triangular, rhombic or hexagonal inner peripheral shape in the case of uniting of one end of the fiber bundles formed by bundling optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:The connector 1 attached to the end of the optical fiber bundles 3 has the triangular, rhombic or hexagonal shape on the sectional shape of the inner peripheral side wall 2 at the edge 1a thereof and the many optical fibers 4 are arrayed along the inner peripheral side wall 2 on the inner peripheral side of the edge. The respective optical fibers 4 positioned on the inner side thereof are automatically arranged and united in the state of orderly maintaining the tight contact with each other up to the axial central part of the edge 1a. The uniting at the ends of the fiber bundles 3 is executed by successively inserting the optical fibers 4 into the edge 1a of the connector 1. The many optical fibers 4 constitute the fiber bundles 3 on gradual attainment of the insertion threshold. The optical fibers are connected without decreasing the optical effective transmission area in this way and the degradation in the transmission ability of light signals is prevented.
