PURPOSE:To quickly kill slopping in the case the slopping develops in melt- reduction refining operation and to execute the stable operation while restraining slag foaming even under high blowing oxygen rate. CONSTITUTION:This method is characterized in that the slag foaming level is lowered by adding iron sulfide during melt-reduction refining operation. Adding iron sulfide is desirably =0.1% of slag wt. The iron sulfide charge and melted in the slag is shifted to molten iron, and by lowering surface tension of the molten iron, the generated CO bubbles are enlarged. As the big bubbles are passed through the slag, the foaming is restrained. As a result, the slopping is killed in a time of =1/4 of the ordinary method.
