PURPOSE:To measure the layer thickness, the descending speed and the density of charged material in a blast furnace simply and continuously. CONSTITUTION:This measuring apparatus comprises one radioactive isotope source 6 for emitting gamma rays, two gamma-ray detectors 8 and 9 and one probe 1 for providing these parts and measures the layer thickness, the descending speed and the density of the charged material in a blast furnace. The scattered gamma rays generated by the collision between the gamma rays from the radioactive isotope source 6 and the charged material are detected with two gamma-ray detectors 8 and 9. The density of the charged material is continuously measured based on the number of the detections. Thus, the layer thickness, the descending speed and the density of the charged material in the blast furnace are measured.
