PURPOSE:To execute the tracking of a running lane by setting a processing area in a road image by using a recognized running lane, and recognizing a white line displayed on the road surface. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with a video camera 1 which is installed in a vehicle and photographs the front of the vehicle, an image processing means 2 for executing an image processing to a road image inputted from the video camera 1, a processing area setting means 3 for setting an area in the image to which the image processing means 2 executes the processing, and a running lane recognizing means 4 for recognizing a running lane by using a result of processing of the image processing means 2, and constituted so that the processing area setting means 3 sets a processing area, based on a result of recognition of the lane of the running lane recognizing means 4.
