PURPOSE:To enable processing accuracy to be improved by picking up image of a microscope image of a blood-smear with a TV camera, obtaining a concentration histrogram based on concentration signal, determining if a plurality of peak values and minimum values satisfy a specified value, and determining that a measurement visual field is not reached satisfactorily when the number of items which are not satisfactory exceeds a specified number. CONSTITUTION:A microscope image of a stained blood smear is picked up by a TV camera and then a concentration histrogram is obtained based on the concentration signal or color signal. Then, when a plurality of peak values and minimum values themselves and a relationship between the peak values and minimum values do not satisfy a desirable range, it is determined that the visual field is not worthy of measurement. Then, the visual field which is not worthy of measurement has many blood corpuscles or corresponds to a case when the blood corpuscles are hemolyzed in blood due to poor smearing technology and thus smear an entire part.
