PURPOSE:To offer a high carbon steel for machine structure excellent in hot workability and suitable for a steel requiring severe hot workability such as a high carbon steel resistance-welded steel tube or the like. CONSTITUTION:This is a high carbon steel for machine structure excellent in hot workability and having a feature that a high carbon steel constituted of, by weight, 0.4 to 0.8% C, 0.15 to 0.35% Si, 0.3 to 2.0% Mn, =0.030% P, =0.035% S, =0.035% Al and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is mixed with 0.05 to 0.15% Mo to manufacture a high carbon steel resistance-welded steel tube constituted of the above-mentioned high carbon steel for machine structure. By adding a small amt. of Mo to an existing steel for machine structure the resistance-welded steel tube remarkably improved in hot workability at =1000 deg.C and good in welding quality can be obtd.
