PURPOSE:To reduce personnel load of handling census registers and to protect original census from damage and missing by eliminating the necessity of taking out a file for filing original such as census registers from a book case, the necessity of removing a relevant census register or the like from the file, a fear of bending the original to damage, and the necessity of refiling the census register in the file and of returning the file to a bookcase. CONSTITUTION:The present census register system is provided with a header book data storage section 4 for storing header data that is an index of image data for the census registration, removal of census registration, and updated original census registration (e.g.;census registration), a census registration image data storage section 3 for storing image data for census registration or the like, an image data edit section 5 for cutting out or compositing part of image data for census registration or the like, and a tenor/abstract print section 8 for printing image data for census registration or the like. Further, a place in the census registration image data storage section 3 where a relevant census registration or the like requested for issuance is stored is indexed by the header book data storage section 4, is called out from the census registration image data storage section 3, is edited by the image data edit section 5 in accordance with the content of the request for issuance, and finally the tenor or abstract of census registration or the like printed by the tenor/abstract print section 8 is issued.
