CONTROL ROD WITH FUEL FOLLOWER, METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DRIVING CONTROL ROD, NUCLEAR POWER PLANT AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING OPERATION OF REACTOR

PURPOSE:To immediately lower nuclear reactivity and to increase further the safety of a reactor by inserting a control rod with a fuel follower. CONSTITUTION:The effective length (b) of a follower fuel 3 attached to a follower part of a control rod is made shorter than the effective length (a) of a standard fuel 4 charged in a reactor. Thereby the fore end of the follower fuel is prevented from jutting out into a reflection peaking part wherein a thermal neutron flux density is high, in an initial stage of insertion of the control rod, and nuclear reactivity lowers as a whole.
