PURPOSE:To obtain the subject antihypertensive agent containing a water extract from cells of a bacterium belonging to Bacillus genus having an antihypertensive action as the active components, free from a side effect and capable of production with a more excellent productivity than that in production of a conventional antihypertensive agent derived from microorganisms. CONSTITUTION:An antihypertensive agent containing a water extract having an antihypertensive action from cells of a bacterium belonging to Bacillus genus, especially Bacillus natto (natto-producing bacterium among Bacillus subtilis) as the active component and capable of application not only to a medicine but to a food additive for prevention and remedy of hypertension because of its many advantageous characteristics, e.g. entirely no toxicity or remarkably low toxicity, an antihypertensive effect by oral administration, a rapidly acting effect in combination with a long acting effect, excellent productivity and a low cost.
