PURPOSE:To shorten the period of operation and to reduce its cost by a method in which while a small boring machine for a horizontal bore in fitted into the shield boring machine for a vertical bore, after the vertical bore has been bored, the horizontal bore is continuously bored from said vertical bore. CONSTITUTION:While the cutter head 3 of the shield boring machine 1 for a vertical bore is composed of a central cutter disk 3A and an outer peripheral cutter disk 3B, the boring machine 7 provided with the central cutter disk 3A is releasably fitted thereto. Next, after the vertical bore 13 has been bored to a prescribed depth by the boring machine 1, the shield boring machine 7 in the central part is removed, and then the boring machine 7 is set in horizontal direction in the vertical bore 13 and is used as the shield boring machine for a horizontal bore. The horizontal bore is bored following to the boring of the vertical bore 13. Consequently, said operation is simplified and the period of the operation is shortened.
