PRODUCTION OF NONLINEAR OPTICAL FILM MADE OF LB FILM

PURPOSE:To obtain the material which has excellent nonlinear optical characteristics and has the characteristics stable with lapse of time by disposing an LB film between a pair of electrodes, and impressing a high voltage between the electrodes to execute an electric field orientation treatment. CONSTITUTION:The LB(Langmuir-Blodgette) film consisting of an arom. high- polymer compd. is disposed between a pair of the electrodes and the high voltage is impressed between these electrodes to execute the electric field orientation treatment to the LB film. The arom. high-polymer compd. has the arom. unit expressed by formula 1 or the precursor unit which can derive this unit or both these units. In the formula I, Ar denotes an arom. group; X denotes a group selected from S, O, etc.; R1 denotes an arom. group, etc.; Y denotes a hydrogen atom or electron acceptive group; Z denotes a hydrogen atom or electron donative group. The nonlinear optical material having excellent second order nonlinear optical characteristics and above all the LB film having the high second harmonic generation (SHG) activity and is less changed in the SHG activity with lapse of time are obtd. in this way.
