摘要

PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display device from which the influence of the hysteresis characteristic of high polymer dispersed liquid crystal is removed and its driving method. CONSTITUTION:The high polymer dispersed liquid crystal has different voltage- transmissivity characteristic curves when a voltage is raised and fallen. A picture element display is made only in the voltage-rising direction so as to remove the hysteresis characteristic. A line (a) on a display screen 271 is scanned to the lower end direction by applying a common voltage (applied voltage of counter electrode). A line (b) is scanned in the same direction as above by applying display image data. In a range A, the common voltage is applied to picture elements. Therefore, all the picture elements are applied with the common voltage and then applied with original display image data after the lapse of a certain time. The image display is made by using only the rising direction of the liquid crystal, so the influence of the hysteresis characteristic is eliminated and an excellent gradational display is made.
