PURPOSE:To obtain an oxide superconductor having a high content of high- temperature phase, comprising Bi, Pb, Sr, Ca, Cu and Mg in a specific ratio as main components. CONSTITUTION:Oxides, carbonates, nitrates or oxalates of Bi, Pb, Sr, Ca, Cu and Mg are blended so as to give an atomic ratio of Bi:Sr:Ca:Mg of 1.3-2.0:0.2-0.8:1.5-2.2:1.8-2.4:2.8-3.8:A (A=0.8, 1.76=Bi+Pb=2.6, 2=Bi/Pb.=9.6, 0.78=Sr/Ca=1) to give a composition for oxide superconductor. Then the composition is calcined at 750-900 deg.C and ground to give a raw material for oxide superconductor. Then the raw material is press molded and burnt in a low- oxygen atmosphere containing 1-20vol.% oxygen content at 800-900 deg.C to give an oxide superconductor.
