PURPOSE:To detect the occurrence of a fault in a short time by informing the execution of the transfer of data every time the data of a prescribed quantity are transferred. CONSTITUTION:A counter 11 performs the subtraction for each transfer of data of a prescribed quantity and transmits a signal after the quantity of data to be transferred and designated by a host device 1 is set. Thus a disk controller 10 can decide a fact that no date was transferred if no signal is transmitted from the counter 11 even after a period of time little longer than the time required for transfer of data of a prescribed quantity. Thus it is possible to recognize the occurrence of a fault and then to quickly cancel the connection to the device 1. Then the processing performance is improved in a computer system.
